New Resources to Help Manage Reassurance Seeking
We are pleased to announce the release of two new information sheets designed to support individuals and carers in understanding and managing reassurance seeking. Reassurance seeking is a common behaviour, where an individual seeks to manage feelings of fear or uncertainty by looking for feedback from others. While reassurance seeking can provide some short-term relief, in the long-term it can reinforce anxiety over time. Recognising this cycle is a key step toward breaking it.
Understanding reassurance seeking is crucial for anyone dealing with anxiety, whether personally or as a support person. These new information sheets offer a starting point for change, helping individuals and carers alike to navigate this behaviour with clarity and confidence.
- Reducing Reassurance Seeking
This concise information sheet is designed for individuals who find themselves frequently seeking reassurance. It explains what reassurance seeking is, how it can perpetuate anxiety, and offers practical strategies to reduce reliance on it.
- Responding to Reassurance Seeking
This companion sheet is aimed at carers, family members, and friends who want to support someone struggling with reassurance seeking. It outlines the dynamics of reassurance in relationships, highlights the importance of compassionate boundaries, and offers guidance on how to respond in ways that promote long-term wellbeing.
Both resources are grounded in psychological research and clinical practice, and are part of CCI’s commitment to providing accessible, evidence-based tools for mental health support.
